Two Point's Budgeting Skillz It didn't really occur to me at first, but after playing several levels I realized the way TPH calculates expenses is different from a lot of other games I'm familiar with. In other games, the checks and balances are calculated at the end of the month in one lump sum and what you can spend is whatever you had left from the month before. I now understand that was a kindness, not a punishment. In TPH, the expenses are all taken out at the end of the month like other games. But the income, however, comes in as patients pay. So if you suck at the game (like me), and spend everything in your account near the end of the month, expenses come in and you go in the red. That system is much, much harder to manage for people like me. What's The Lesson?
Well, tbh it exposes if you have bad money managing habits. Since I clearly do, I've found the game more challenging than it probably needs to be for the levels I'm on. But the game is fun, so it compels me to keep trying. As opposed to the real world, which sometimes makes me want to curl into a ball and hide under a rock somewhere in the hopes that the money fairy will take pity on me. I'm sure we've all been there, though, right? Amirite? Anyway, my hope is that as I play maybe my brain will start to shift in how it subconsciously thinks about and deals with money. Perhaps that will carry over to the real world and help me somehow. It's all a bunch of maybes, but it sounds plausible. What do you think? Could games unintentionally help us when we're playing them? Has a game affected your life behind the scenes and changed the way you think? Leave a comment and tell me your thoughts (let me pick your braaains)! See ya next time, Internet Drifters!
